FAQ - Financing & Scholarships

Does the EMJM scholarship cover all expenses?

Scholarship holders are not required to pay participation costs or other mandatory costs related to their enrolment in the programme. The scholarship is awarded for full-time enrolment, and covers the entire duration of the Master's programme (24 months).

The scholarship amount  is €1,400 per month, which is meant to cover expenses mentioned above.

NOTE
Applicants will not be eligible for Erasmus Mundus scholarships if:

  • they already benefitted from an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, or
  • the maximum number of scholarships allowed for candidates of the same nationalty has already been reached, in accordance with Erasmus Mundus rules set at the European level.
Please note that scholarships are allocated based on the final ranking list and subject to nationality quotas.

Applicants who are academically eligible but not selected for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship may still receive an offer of admission with participation costs  (self-funded place, see below).
How much does the programme cost? SELF-FUNDED STUDENTS

The participation costs of the imAGEin programme for self-funded students for the 2026-2028 intake (cohort) are as follows:

FAQ - General information about the programme

When does the imAGEin programme start?

The programme starts in September. Exact dates will be communicated to admitted students.

Is the imAGEin programme fully taught in English?

Yes. All courses, academic activities, assessments, and official communications within the imAGEin programme are conducted entirely in English.

Can I work during the programme or study part-time?

The EMJM imAGEin is a full-time programme. While we undestand that some students may wish to combine studies with other activities, please note that part-time enrolment or employment is strongly discouraged, as it is not compatible with the intensive, full-time nature of the programme.
All students, whether scholarship holders or self-funded, are expected to fully commit to the academic and mobility requirements of the programme over the two years.
For EMJM scholarship holders, the grant is intended to fully support living and study expenses, allowing you to focus entirely on your studies.
For self-funded students, we understand the financial constraints may exist. However, keep in mind that the academic workload is intensive, and the programme requires your full-time participation.
In addition, work permit regulations vary depending on the host country and type of visa, and in some cases, student visas may not allow any form of employment.
Please take this into careful consideration before applying.

FAQ - Eligibility & Academic background

I'm from "X" country - can I apply?

Yes. The imAGEin programme is open to applicants of all nationalities.

I have been living in one of the programme's participating countries for more that 12 months. Can I apply, and can I include that country in my study track (personal training plan)

Yes, you can apply to the programme regardless of your country of residence.
HOWEVER, please note that if you have lived in a participating country for more than 12 months prior to the application deadline, you cannot include that country in your study track.
For exemple:

  • If you have been living in France for more than 12 month before your application, you cannot select France (e.g., Sorbonne University or Université Côte d'Azur) as one of your study locations in the imAGEin track.
  • Your mobility must therefore take place in at least two countries that are different from your current country of residence.

All EMJM curricula must include at least one compulsory physical mobility period in two countries other that the student's country of residence.
At least one semester (30 ETCS) must be completed and validated outside the student's country of residence.

I have two nationalities - which one should I use when applying?

If you have two nationalities, you have to choose under which nationality you want to apply when you complete your eCandidat application form.
Please consider the 12-month residence rule when you make such a decision.

I have a bachelor's degree in "X" - can I apply?

Holding a Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field is a necessary requirement to apply, but not sufficient on its own to determine your eligibility.
Your complete application will be carefully reviewed, and only after evaluating the full set of documents will the selection committe be able to determine whether your academic brackground meets the eligibility criteria.

I have not yet completed my bachelor's degree - can I still apply?

Yes, provided that you will have completed your degree before the start of the programme.
At the time of the application, you may apply using your current transcripts, and is applicable, an official letter from your university confirming the expected date of completition of your Bachelor's degree.
Proof of degree completition will be required by July at the latest. Applicants who are admitted to the programmme but fail to complete their Bachelor's degree by this deadline will not be able to enrol and will not be part of the programme.

Can I apply if I already have a master's degree?

Yes, you are welcome to apply. However, you will need to explain how enrolling the imAGEin programme would make a difference for your career goals and justify why this Master is relevant to your professional or academic development.

What are the English language requirements?

Knowledge of the English language is considered a basic requirement.
All students must provide recent proof (maximum 2 years old) of their proficiency in English through one of the following documents:

Please note: this is mandatory requirement for enrolment at partner universities. For this reason, we cannot make exceptions, and students must be able to provide at least one of the documents listed below:

  • TOEFL iBT Certificate: minimum overall score of 93 (each component >22)
  • IELTS Certificate: minimum overall score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each sub-component
  • Cambridge English Certificate: C2 Proficiency (CPE) or C1 Advanced (CAE) with a minimum overall score of 180 and no component below 176
  • Proof of at least one semester of a studies programme taught 100% in English (e.g., a Medium of Instruction MOI certificate).

NOTE: if you provide a MOI certificate confirming that your studies were contucted entirely in English, this is sufficient to fullfill the English requirement. You do not need to submit an additional English language test (TOEFL, IELT, or Cambridge).

FAQ - Application & submission rules

How and where must I submit my application?

All applications must be submitted exclusively through the official online application platform (eCandidat).

Can I submit my application by email?

No. Application documents sent by email will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Can you review my documents or confirm my eligibility before I submit my application ?

Please note that, in accordance with the principles of equality and neutrality towards all applicants, we are unable to review documents sent by email or provide individual feedback on eligibility prior to submission. All application documents must be submitted exclusively through the official application platform (eCandidat). Eligibility is assessed by the selection committe only after a complete application has been formally submitted.

Can I submit my application after the deadline or upload missing documents later?

No. Late applications and incomplete applications at the time of the deadline (6 March 2026, 23:00 CET Paris Time) will not be considered.

We strongly encourage all applicants to verify their submission and ensure that all required documents are in line and uploaded well before the deadline.

Early submission is strongly advised, as it provides applicants with the opportunity to adress non-compliance before the application deadline.

  • Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.
  • Incomplete applications at the time of the deadline will not be considered.
  • It will not be possible to upload or send via eCandidat missing documents after the application period has closed

No application documents will be accepted via email

Can I modify or replace documents after submitting my application?

Once you submit your application, you cannot make any changes or replace documents.
Modifications are only possible if, after checking your application, the administrative team identifies a document as non-compliant or missing. In that case, your application will be marked as "incomplete" and you will be notified. You may then only replace or complete the specific non-compliant document thourgh your eCandidat account and resubmit your application.

All documents must be submitted before the deadline.

I have no Family name, how should I fill my name?

The Family name = surname = last name is always present on the passport. Exceptionally, the given name = first name is missing then, it is written “FNU” for “First Name Unknown” on the passport and you do the same in your application. Please fill out your identity information as written on your passport.

How should I define my Personal Training Plan (PTP)?

The PTP should outline your educational, professional, and mobility goals within the imAGEin programme.
When defining your PTP, you must ensure that it aligns with the mobility requirements set by the imAGEin programme and Erasmus+ regulations.
Specifically, your PTP must:

  • Include two academic years (Year 1 and Year 2), each spent at a different Higher Education Institution (HEI) within the Consortium.
  • Include two HEIs in two different countries (excluding your country or residence at enrolment)
  • Reflect a coherent academic and research trajectory
I applied last year. Do I have to apply again?

Yes, you'll have to register and upload your documents on the eCandidat platform again.

When will I know if I'm selected?

You'll be informed about the eligibility of your application within approx. one month after submitting a complete application.
The selection process has two phases:

  • Phase 1 "Application file evaluation": if eligible, you will be invited to an interview.
  • Phase 2 "Interview": After the interview, you will be informed whether you are admitted to the programme and whether you have been awarded an Erasmus scholarship or not.
Where and how should I submit my reference letters?

Two recommendation letters are required. The applicant is responsible for requesting the letters from their referees and uploading them directly to the eCandidat application platform. Reference letters submitted by email will not be accepted.

Will the number of words in my motivation letter be verified?

The motivation letter must be no longer than 500 words. The word count will be checked. Motivation letters exceeding 500 words will not be considered, and the application file will be deemed incomplete.

FAQ - Selection process & evaluation

How does the selection process work for the 2026-2028 application campaign?

Due to the high number of applications we receive, complete applications will be evaluated by the Selection Committee in three evaluation rounds:

  • Round 1: early february 2026
  • Round 2: early march 2026
  • Round 3: early march until mid-march 2026

Selection process overview:

Initial administrative check
Applications submitted via the eCandidat platform are checked for completeness and compliance with all required documents. Only complete and compliant applications submitted before the deadline, will be evaluated by the Selection Committee (see Phase 1 and Phase 2).

Phase 1 - Application evaluation
The Selection Committee evaluates all complete applications based on several criteria such as: overall quality of the Curriculum Vitae, motivation letter, academic scores, reference letters, relevance of the proposed personal training plan (PTP), etc.
At the end of each evaluation round, candidates are informed whether their application is eligible to proceed to Phase 2 (interview) or not eligible.

Phase 2 - Interview
Eligible candidates are invited to an online interview with at least three members of the Selection Committee. Following the interview, candidates are informed whether they are selected for admission or not.

After the completion of the selection process, the Selection Committee establishes a final ranking list. Based on this ranking, selected candidates receive either:

  • an offer of admission with an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, or
  • an offer of admission without an Erasmus Mundus scholarship (self-funded place).
What is the advantage of submitting my application as early as possible?

Submitting a complete application as early as possible does not provide any advantage in terms of admission or scholarship consideration.

However, please take into account that if a document is missing or non-compliant, submitting early gives you more time to complete or correct your application before the deadline. Once the deadline has passed, it will not be possible to add or modify documents. Incomplete applications will not be considered for review by the Selection Committe.

Candidates are responsible for carefully reviewing the list of required documents and submitting a complete application that meets the specifications.

Does applying in an earlier round of application review increase my chances of receiving an Erasmus Mundus scholarship?

No. There is no priority for scholarship attribution based on the application round review. All complete applications submitted before the official deadline are treated equally. Applications are reviewed in several evaluation rounds due to the high number of candidates, but both admission offers and scholarships are awarded only at the very end of the selection process, based on the final ranking established by the Selection Committee.

What happens after my application is submitted?

After submission, the Coordination team first checks that all required documents are present and compliant.
All complete applications are then reviewed by the selection committee, which decides whether candidates meet the programme's eligibility criteria (Phase 1). Eligible candidates will be invited to an interview (Phase 2). Final admission and scholarship decision are communicated after the full selection process is completed.

I have been selected for Phase 2 of the selection process. How should I prepare for the interview?

Applicants should be prepared to discuss their:

  • academic background
  • motivation to join the programme
  • relevant experiences
  • Personal Training Plan (PTP)

The interview is conducted online in English.
I have been selected for Phase 2 (interview), but i al not available at the assigned time. What should I do?

Shortlisted applicants for Phase 2 will receive an email with their assigned interview slot.
Due to the high number of interviews and constrained schedule of the Selection Committee, it is not possible to provide alternative interview slots. Interviews cannot be reschedules. Candidates must ensure they are available dirung the interview week (MArch 16 to 20, 2026) and connect at the date and time indicated in the invitation email.

Applicants are responsible for:

  • Verifying that their internet connection, microphone, and camera are working properly
  • Logging in on time

No interview will be rescheduled due to technical issues on the candidate's side. It is therefore strngly recommended to test your connection in advance and esnure a quit and suitable environment for the interview.

Can I receive individual feedback on my application if I am not selected?

Due to the large number of applications, individual feedback on applications is not provided. All applications are assessed by the selection committe based on predefined criteria, and decisions are final. Candidates who are not selected will receive a notification. No further personalized comments will be provided.

When will I know if I am selected?

Selection results are communicated according to the timeline indicated on the programme website (section "Applications and registration").

FAQ - Visa & Arrival logistics

Do I need a visa to participate in the programme?

Visa requirements depend on your nationality and the country of your first host university (Université Côte d'Azur, University of Cologne, University of Coimbra, University of Seville). Selected applicants should start the visa application process as soon as they receive their official admission letter.

When applying for a visa, it is important to clearly indicate that you are participating in an Erasmus Mundus programme with mobility in Europe and that the programme lasts two full academic years. This ensures that the embassy is aware of the full duration and nature of your studies.

All relevant information, including the duration of the programme and your host universities for Year 1 and Year 2, will be clearly indicated in your official admission letter.

What support is provided for arrival and finding accommodation?

Once admitted, the programme coordinators, together with the local coordinator at each host university, will provide guidance to students on all arrival procedures specific to the host country and university. This includes par exemple: visa formalities, residence permit, enrolment, accesing the health care system, etc.

They will also provide advice and resources to help students find accommodation, including available options for university residence (if available), private rentals, and other housing options.
