ID card, passport, visa
The residence permit you will need depends on the length of your stay for study or an internship and the country you are going to.
- In the European Union: a valid ID card or passport is enough.
- In countries outside the European Union (located in the European zone): if you are planning to leave for a period of less than 3 months, a passport is enough. If you are planning to stay longer than six months, you will need a visa.
- Outside the European Union: regulations vary from country to country. You need to check with the embassy of the relevant country.
Health insurance and social security
It is essential to be well insured before leaving. Many foreign universities require students to provide a certificate of insurance before they can enroll.
- For stays in Europe: you must obtain a European health insurance card from the Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie before your departure. You can request one online through your Ameli account.
- For stays outside Europe: your social protection varies depending on your destination. Contact the CPAM directly to find out what requirements apply in your case.
